Strategy #15 Entice the Tiger to Leave the Mountain …  调虎离山

Entice the Tiger to Leave the Mountain …

The tiger is powerful when it’s in its own natural environment.

Examine your adversary’s source of power and if the source is an individual, remove that individual. If the individual’s source of power is an advisor, remove the advisor. The key word is ‘entice’.

This strategy may be achieved by gathering every bit of information about the nature of the tiger so the appropriate ‘bait’ can be used.

CEO’s should be warned that when visiting Asia on a business venture it’s like the tiger leaving the mountain.

The visiting CEO usually leaves behind his position of comfort in his own land and can be left struggling with the language and the customs of a foreign land.

The current democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong are focusing on the city because it’s a symbol of the People’s Revolution and the historical perspective of the struggle of the Chinese people. The tiger is in the mountain!

The Tiananmen Square incident in 1989 bears a great deal of similarity to this, where the student protestors realised the power and significance of the square and refused to leave.

The Chinese government repeatedly tried to move the students from the square before they would begin negotiations with them.

Finally they lost patience and brought in the tanks. What do you think will happen in Hong Kong?

In January 1990, the Chinese government enacted a new law prohibiting any form of demonstration around or in Tiananmen Square which also includes the taking of photos or video.
