Defeat the Enemy by Capturing Their Chief …
Throughout early Chinese history there were many examples of capturing the Chief or a Commander of enemy forces which usually resulted in victory.
One example is described in Strategy #16 ‘In Order to Capture, One Must let Loose’.
A strategy designed to prevent conflict and secure a country’s border.
In the world of today’s business the chief decision maker should be the target of ‘capture’. It is advisable to gain a thorough understanding of exactly what this individual wants and put yourself in a position to deliver it.
In a socialist or communist country this is a more difficult proposition than in a capitalist society as the CEO’s ultimate goal may not always be money.
In some instances it may be a desire to obtain a position of power in a political party. This person may seek a position in a large organisation or bureaucracy, or an educational opportunity for their sons or daughters in our country.
The ability to capture the Chief is dependent upon the ability to understand the Chief.
‘Know yourself, know your opponents; One hundred battles, one hundred victories.
