HFA Round 17, 2022 Pickering Brook V’s Gidgegannup.
After trouncing Chidlow in round 16 by 116 points the Hawks were full of confidence to take on their old enemy the Gidgegannup Bulldogs at home.
Their confidence certainly overwhelmed the Bulldogs as they kicked 8.1 in the first quarter to Gidge’s. 2 single points.
Coach Outridge has finally convinced the Hawks that a ‘run and carry’ game is the way to play footy in the HFA instead of playing paddock footy, a style of play the Hawks have lapsed into during some quarters this season.
Not a great deal can be said about this game other than the Gidgegannup ‘old boys’ Dylan Cahill, Sean Nagle, Cam Hore and Tim Tanner tried very hard to stop the Hawk’s onslaught, but to no avail.
When I checked the Bulldogs playing list I was surprised to find there were 10 players in their team that were playing when I was coaching 10 years ago!
As the game wore on the Bulldogs managed to kick three late goals in the last quarter, however it was not enough to avoid the ‘dreaded defeat’ by 100 points!
John Armstrong had a ‘day out’ kicking 8 goals and helped to create several others, he was awarded as the Hawks best player followed by Luke Outridge and Tim McQuoid who were very creative in helping their team mates in this win.
Final scores: Pickering Brook 23.11 – 149, Gidgegannup 6.12 – 48

Match summary – Sunday 5 August, 2012 – Pickering Brook V’s Chidlow
In our last encounter with the Cougars we nearly ‘kicked ourselves out of the game’ by scoring 11.23 – 89 pts. to Chidlow’s 12.9 – 81pts., a very frustrating afternoon for all concerned!
In contrast last Sundays game at Pickering Brook was very satisfying for all concerned as the Hawks played good team football for the four quarters and withstood the challenges that the Cougars constantly made. Skipper Mark Caccetta who was sidelined with injury had the difficult task of picking the best for the Hawks and said it was harder task than playing! After long consideration he awarded our best to Postie, Mitch and Luke who were in the action all day and inspired their teammates with their commitment. Others who were inspirational included Tony and Mort’s (who bagged six apiece), centers Errol and Ben, Logan on the wing and Kiel at CHB.
Steve Caccetta continues to go where nobody wants to go and with the rest of the team playing well contributed to the excellent final score: Pickering Brook 20.14 – 134 points, Chidlow 6.5 – 41 points.
Internal report – for management committee
The Hawks are continuing to improve and are now confident they can meet the challenge that Gidge presents. We have been extremely lucky with our low injury rate with most of them being the soft tissue type allowing speedy recovery. The only concern I have is Jake York who has an elbow injury which will need to be protected in the future.
One thing I found particularly disturbing and it made me pretty shitty, is the ‘Bulldogs Barking’ remarks made in the Footy Focus regarding ‘Nippers no brainer’ and the whole paragraph devoted to the hit on Logan last week, which left him stunned and dazed. The author of this report should have his head examined as he has made a joke about one of the main injury worries the AFL and all associations have with concussion. Our delegate needs to bring this up at the next HFA meeting.
