From the far boundary…
The Kalamunda Cougars Football Club has recommenced pre-season training for the 2025 season at Ray Owen oval.
The attendance at training has been very encouraging with an average of 80 players vying for positions in the clubs 4 men’s and ladies’ side.

Coach Chris Bolton now in his second season with the club is looking forward to a successful season and urging all playing members to take advantage of the pre-season training to achieve peak fitness before the season starts.
He has also scheduled two scratch matches on the 15th and 22 of March to identify prospective talent for his league side.
The league senior side will keen to strive for a premiership position in C grade after a successful season in 2024 reaching the Preliminary Final to lose to Swan Athletic who went on to win the C1 Grand Final and promotion to B grade.
Last season the selection committee had the opportunity to blood over 60 players in the league side, the majority promoted from the clubs Colts teams who acquitted themselves well at senior level. This experience will serve them well in the forthcoming season.
With the number of colts now becoming eligible to play in senior ranks it will put plenty of pressure on the selectors in forming the league side for this season.
The selectors job will be particularly difficult in view of the number of players training and keen to play in the League side. They will also have to select a senior men’s reserves and thirds team to support the league side without having to disappoint players not selected for the first rounds. These players will find it’s a long season and they will have plenty of opportunities to play as the season progresses.
Players who are not selected can do plenty on match days to help the coach and team management prepare for games. They can also assist their teammates on the field by positioning themselves around the boundary and encouraging them.
The ladies will be looking forward to another successful season after finishing in 4th position last season. They will be buoyed with their new changerooms recently opened by the Lord Mayor of Kalamunda City Margaret Thomas.
The club is also hosting players from the Wongan Ballidu Football Club who reside in Perth and wish to train with the Cougars.

Because of time constraints we have been limited to reporting on the Cougars League side during the season and encourage anyone who is interested, to report on the games played by other grades.
We trust Don Benson an Ian Eldred will provide valuable photos of our players in action, once again this season.
We also encourage our readers to add their ‘Point of View’ available at the end of each blog post for publication in these reports.
