Round 2, Kalamunda V’s Hamersley Carine at Ray Owen Oval
This round saw to Cougars get off to a good start with the Colts and Reserves sides winning comfortably, setting the scene for another great game between the Hamersley Carine ‘Hawks’ and the ‘Cougars’ who have been great rivals in the C1 League over past seasons.
The first quarter commenced at a frenetic pace with the Cougars winning the ball from the centre through the efforts of Jack Amos in the ruck who is showing great form and skipper Trent Pottinger, outstanding in this term, driving the ball forward and teaming with his forwards to kick 2 goals.

The Cougars may have to change their name to the ‘Vicious Terriers’ in the future! They continued to harass the Hawks throughout the match denying the Hawks taller physical players any productive influence on the game.
Kade McKeown and Kayel Ascoli slipped-away to kick 2 goals during this quarter, due to the constant pressure their team-mates were applying to lead by 12 points at the first break.
In the second term the Hawks realised they were in for a battle to improve their position on the ladder. They struggled back through the fierce tackling to scramble 2.2 to outscore the Cougars by 1 point.
On resumption of play in the third, the Cougars became angry and took complete control of the game kicking 5.3 to the Hawks 1.1.
Reg Jones began to exert his influence in this term with accurate passing to the forward line, bringing Jackson Bowen, Kyle Ascoli and Max Fasolo in to score with skipper Trent Pottinger lurking around to add another goal.
In the final term the Hawks big men were tiring and sick to death of the Cougar terriers, who were relishing the battle.
The quarter, started with a great tackle from Max Fasolo which allowed Mitch Massam to score, followed up by Christiano Paduano and Jack Amos. Trent Pottinger then slipped in to add to the Hawks misery by slotting his 5th goal to cap off a great day.
This win has provided a great start to the Cougars season. With confidence up, the Cougars now have the long road ahead and many battles to win in their goal for a premiership flag.
