Cougar Tributes for two great clubmen

Alex Haight, Reporting

We wish to congratulate Brett van Groningen who played his 200th league/club game for the Kalamunda Cougars in round 7 against the Ballajura Royals at Kingfisher Park.

Brett first came to the club from Swan Districts and played a once off game in round 13, 2011 against West Coast Cowan. His breakneck lightning speed off half back, exquisite skills and mesmerizing play are a joy to watch.

Catch me if you can!

I’ve never seen someone cruise past multiple opponents with such ease and with the confidence in his own ability and an unshakeable mentality, makes it an almost impossible task for the competition to stop him.

After a stint at Swan Districts, he returned to play for the cougars in 2013. It proved to be an outstanding year for himself and the club. He became a premiership player winning a thrilling grand final against West Coast Cowan in horrendous conditions.

Bret was a huge part of the group that not only won the club’s first B Grade flag but also helped Kalamunda remain in A grade for the next 5 seasons to show the rest of the competition that Kalamunda meant business. He would go on to earn four Enright medals, represent WA in the state under 23s and captain the league team.

Winner of many awards …

Brett you are easily one of the most gifted and talented players that’s graced our great club in my time. Well done on your milestone and huge respect for the way you conduct yourself with your commitment and professionalism to show and guide others to get the best out of themselves. You are a true champion of the Kalamunda Football Club.

Congratulations  also to our club President Brenton Lucas who played his 150th club game for the Kalamunda Cougars. in round 7 against the Dianella Morley Raiders at Dianella open space.

Club president Brenton Lucas
