Cougars Footy 2021 (C1 grade)
10/7/2021
Round 13, Quinns District V’s Kalamunda at Ridgewood Park
The Cougars hung on in a tight last quarter to win this game despite not kicking a goal in the term!
At three quarter time they led by 34 points and looked to have the game well in their keeping as Quinns had lost their composure and were starting to play the man to the ire of the umpires.
Quinns coach must have provided them with plenty of ‘encouragement’ at that break because they came out and kicked 3.5 in the final quarter to the Cougars 2 points.
Luck must have been running for our side because Quinns forwards missed three set shots at goal from free kicks at short range.
Had this not happened the outcome may have been in Quinns favor because they had regained their composure after the three quarter time break.
Fortunately, our backline stood up and repelled many attacks during this quarter.
The road to the finals is going to be a tough one for the Cougars as consistency is beginning to loom as a problem for the side.
This can be addressed by an increase in concentration as there is a tendency with our players to let the opposing players run loose once the ball is in our forward line.
Unless we have a set shot within the ‘critical area’ at the head of the square, all players downfield should be on guard and pick their men up!
This may go a long way towards saving energy and enjoying a beer after the game!
Final scores: Quinns District: 9.10 – 64, Kalamunda: 11.11 – 77
Best players: The usual bunch with special mention for Ben Dupont.
