Cougars season ends for C1 grade…

 Preliminary Final
C1 grade Kalamunda V’s Melville 3/9/21 at Ray Owen Reserve

The Cougars hopes of playing in the grand final of season 2021 were dashed last Saturday by Melville’s strong consistent football over four quarters.

Melville led throughout the game and at no stage allowed the Cougars to gain ascendency. At half time they led by 40 points as they dominated in most positions around the ground.

Melville’s skill level was superior to the Cougars who were making far too many errors with their disposal leading to many turnovers which placed our backline under enormous pressure.

Despite Melville’s ascendency in the first half the Cougars persevered and never gave up the fight kicking 7.3 to Melville’s 6.4 in the second half!

Unfortunately for the Cougars, the damage had been done and Melville ran out winners to go into the Grand Final against Baldivis.

The Cougars lost team captain Brett van Groningen, Tyler Caddy and Aaron Hutchison through injury for this game and despite the loss of Daniel Brescacin and Jayden Kegg early in the game, the Cougars put on a meritorious performance against the odds.

Players who stood out and never stopped trying all match included Max Bradley and Josh Harris who were inspirational.

Blair Southcott and Jackson Bowen stood out and the old warrior Curtis Jack showed there was another 100 games before he retires!

All the players in the backline deserve to be commended as they faced a concentrated attack over the duration of the game.

Coach Fare said he was proud of the way our team fought this match out and said the Cougars could look forward to a bright future from the experience they have gained this season.

Added to this we have a group of eager young players coming from the Colts grade next season who will bolster our ranks and provide plenty of competition for playing positions.

Final score: Melville 15.8 – 98, Kalamunda 10.4 – 64

Best players: Max Bradley, Josh Harris, Blair Southcott

Next week’s games: Kalamunda Colts V’s Canning Vale at East Fremantle Oval @ 10am, E grade: Kalamunda V’s  West Coast at Richard Guelfi Reserve @ 11am.
