Cougars win Elimination Final …

Elimination final, Kalamunda V’s Thornlie  Saturday 17 August 2024 at Ray Owen Reserve

After losing to Cockburn Lakes in round 18 by 43 points the Cougars faced the prospect of an elimination final against Thornlie at home. The Cougars would have been favored to win this encounter as Thornlie’s form had been patchy in the lead up to this game, however they had always been tough opponents for the Cougars who needed to be at their best.

This game was noteworthy, as it was the last one the Cougars would play on Ray Owen for some time, due to redevelopment of the Oval and clubrooms.

I was unable to attend this game and from reports the weather was the deciding factor in the match with the Cougars just getting over the line by a single point!

Just one of those days …

I would be grateful if anyone could give me their ‘point of view’ of this game and the heroes who played in it. Please add your comment in the section at the bottom of this blog or email me wattoonjohn@outlook.com or qlsmdzghlm@gmail.com

It was sad to see the E2 ‘Allstars’ eliminated from the competition however, they are to be congratulated on their efforts this season and the colts who doubled up on occasions to make up a team.

The Reserves and the Colts also struggled in the weather, losing their games however, they will get another chance to go further as they play Semi-finals next week.

In Appreciation …
Ladies Coach: Mathew Aitchison in action …

Late in 2023 I was given an opportunity to coach a team in my own right after a few years off… I started out with 30 odd strangers and less than 12 months later, I now have 30 odd incredible humans that feel like family.

With a massive focus on positivity, unity and growth, this group grew together and every single individual grew and improved. Our 2024 journey came to an end after a finals loss, but our journey is only just getting started.

I could not be prouder of every single one of the girls, and so grateful for them bringing back my love for the game and for coaching.

Special thanks to my amazing team manager @paigesouth_ Assistant Coach @carlogiglia1 and the entire @kalamunda.cougars football club. There is no other club like them in the @perthfooty
