DB’s 7 goals sets up a Cougar victory …

Kalamunda V’s Canning Vale Round 17, 7 August, 2021

Veteran forward Daniel Brescacin had a ‘day out’ kicking seven goals in this round V’s Canning Vale at Ray Owen in wet and slippery conditions.

DB took advantage of good delivery into the forward line in the first half of this game to kick the bulk of his goals to have the Cougars leading by 53 points at half time.

The Cougars displayed plenty of endeavor in this first half being first to the ball, and winning across all lines thereby  controlling the game.

In the second half Canning Vale must have received an encouraging boost from their coach as they came out revitalised and kicked 3.2 to the Cougars 2.3 and looked a completely different side.

In the last quarter Canning Vale resumed their good form and won the quarter by kicking 3.1 to our 2.2 in a slogging match to the finish.

When speaking to Captain Trent Pottinger after the match, I indicated my disappointment that Cougars hadn’t finished Canning Vale off in the last half on the score board.

Trent said that the team had done well to beat them by 43 points and pointed out that Canning Vale were a dangerous side despite their 8th position on the ladder. In the last 7 rounds they had won 4 games, lost 3 by small margins and had only lost to top side Baldivis by 3 points!

On reflection this was a good team effort and welcomed the return of Tiger Morris and Giacomo Paduano who will benefit from the run.

Final score: Kalamunda 13.12 – 90, Canning Vale: 7.5 – 47

Best players: The usual group, with special mention for Jackson Bowen and Cameron Wilson.

Next weeks game V’s Melville at Melville, this will be a tough one in the lead up to the finals!

Congratulations to the Ladies, Reserves and Thirds on their wins, a good day for the club!

We couldn't resist this great photo of our girls courtesy of Don Benson who is a proud sponsor of our club.

We are currently looking for an enterprising reporter to cover the finals for this blog.
