Two big Milestones; Josh Harris and Ethan Massam

Alex Haight, Reporting

Congratulations to Ethan Massam who played his 50th club game last weekend for the Kalamunda Cougars when the colts team took on Swan Athletic in the Preliminary Final. at the Swan Athletic sporting club.

Ethan started has journey taking overhead intercepting marks and counter attacking for his team.

Ethan in action …

He has stepped up this year and taken on the role of captaining the Colt’s team.  A reliable defender who rarely gets beaten one on one and who reads the play well, taking strong marks and becoming a general in the backline.

Ethan shows great leadership and communication skills by helping his fellow back men setup and be in the right position as well as a voice/eyes/ears for players further up the ground.

He became a premiership player in his very first year and played his role well, in what was a dominant Colt’s side.

‘Continue to  bring that intensity and never say die attitude to set the tone as captain Ethan and I’m sure your teammates will follow your example’.

Good luck for your future with the Cougars!

Congratulations also to Josh Harris who played  his 100th club game for the Kalamunda Cougars last Saturday when the league side took on Swan Athletic in the preliminary final.

This crucial game for the club was held at Swan Athletic Sporting Club and decided which team was grand final bound for the following week and also who will be elevated to B Grade next year.

Josh Harris 100 games …

Josh made his club debut back in 2019 playing colts and after only a handful of games you could see he was a clear standout, dominating and impacting games in whatever position he played in with the ability to turn games on their head.

He is class act and highly skilled player with a tremendous work ethic who has a humble approach and loves playing footy with his mates. Later that season in Colts he earned an opportunity to debut for the league side where he stepped up to the level and again showed his class and poise.

After an outstanding first season he was unanimously awarded the club’s rising star award for best upcoming talent.

2020 brought a shortened season due to covid but Josh picked up where he left off.  He played all nine games in the league team and qualifying for the colts to play finals, where he played a crucial role and earned himself player of the finals and more importantly a premiership medal.

In the years to follow he was voted into the leadership group and vice captain by his peers and continued to thrive. Elevating his game to another level and the accolades/achievements kept coming:

– 2021 Runner up league best and fairest – 2022 Enright medalist – 2022 Club leading goal kicker ( 37 goals) – 2022 C1 association runner up ( 26 votes)

This has been an amazing career to date and this is only the beginning. Well done Harro!
