Kalamunda Cougars Season, 2024

From the far boundary…

With the club’s successful season fielding 4 senior men’s teams and a ladies side the Cougars have a lot to look forward to in season 2025!

Four of the teams played finals football however a premiership flag was elusive for our young sides who are determined to rectify this in season 2025.

During the season the club had many players and members who reached milestones in their careers. These players are featured in Alex Haight’s reports in this blog.

Our clubs coaching staff and committee are congratulated  on their  splendid efforts during the season with senior coach Chris Bolton who joined the Cougars this season and brought a new strategic initiative in the operation of the club. This saw his supporting staff and coaches achieve the success they had.

Our President Brenton Lucas and his committee organized the 2024 Enright Medal Night held at Optus Stadium to present our Men’s , Colts, Women’s and other club awards they were:

Our club was also a Runner-up in the ‘Best Senior Club’ competition for the league. In spite of this our administration was made particularly difficult once again this season as the club’s facilities have not improved as reported in our 2023 season end report and still remain inadequate for 4 men’s and a lady’s side.

When will it be finished…?

We of the far boundary have no idea if the City of Kalamunda has any idea of the need to upgrade urgently, existing change room facilities particularly for ladies, as well as medical rooms, toilets and umpire’s rooms. Storage  for efficient operation is also completely inadequate with club officials having to store essential equipment and other club material in their own homes!

Current progress September 2024

We believe the City is aware that  Ray Owen oval cannot handle the heavy workload placed upon it by our expanding club, plus junior football and use by surrounding schools. This season two of our men’s grades were once again forced to train for finals football  on alternative facilities outside the Shire.

In past seasons the oval became unusable and dangerous to play on, necessitating additional changes in training venues leading to disruption in the clubs finals campaigns.

During the cricket season in 2024, complaints about the dangerous surface of the oval were also made by umpires in their match reports to the Perth Swan Cricket Association.

Don Benson and Ian Eldred continued to provide great photos of our milestones in 2024, we trust they will enhance the posts and pages in our weekly reports again in season 2025.

Once again we supporters on the ‘far boundary’ know this dynamic club will overcome all obstacles placed before it in season 2025 and provide Courage, Commitment and service to the Community!
