Developing young players …

When coaching, the development of the playing group involves more than the principles of just playing football.

This is the most important time in a young man’s life and generally shapes his aspirations for the future in terms of his career, family, friends and life.

During the period the players are involved with a club emphasis should be placed on the skills a person needs to be successful, these skills not only apply to football but life in general and can cover:

  • learning and change
  • Teamwork
  • Preparation and action
  • Strategy and tactics
  • Resourcefulness
  • Self-awareness – overcoming doubts and fears
  • Objectivity and patience
  • Resilience and mind over matter
  • Leadership and Persuasion

The basics of these skills can be reinforced through the discipline of football training, participation in team meetings and club social activities.
