C1- Jandakot V’s Kalamunda, 31 July, 2021
This week’s report kindly prepared by Ed Considine for the first half and Bruce Glover for the second.
LADDER: KALAMUNDA 2 JANDAKOT 5
To set the tone for the day Kalamunda needed to make a statement.
With the average age being an estimated 22-year-old, it was the first time in many years that we had such a fit and determined team guided by astute coach Mark Fare
First half of the first quarter was all Kalamunda. The play was held mainly in our forward half. DB was at his usual best terrorizing the backline players with svelte moves and footy smarts.
Jacko’s pressure and voice was notable and Carrington doing the lead up body work. Southy was majestic in the air for such a wet and miserable day. Kalamunda were able to capitalize with three hard fought goals.
The second half of the first quarter became a dour struggle. The Half backline led by Dutchy rebounded many of Jandakot’s forward thrusts and the full backline led by Touchell were on their game proving too good for the sleek Jandakot forwards.
The midfield players led by T. Pott had come to play and were assisting in the backline and then picking targets in the middle of the ground to provide some very exciting free flowing football. To finish the quarter Carrington kicked a wonderful goal from a set shot after the siren.
QTR TIME – Kalamunda: 4.1 – 25, Jandakot: 0. 4 – 4
The second quarter, Kalamunda again got away to great start. Ben Burnes took a great mark in front of goal but was unable to capitalize. Then Max Bradley our speedster and line breaker swooped on a loose ball and slammed it through the big ones for what was the Jandakot’s momentum breaker.
This was quickly followed by a great Half back line rebound goal which Carrington ably finished with another 6 pointer. I must mention at this point Keg’s and Josh’s magnificent work inside the packs which resulted in a Joel Peters goal.
Jandakot were not without some lovely passages of play, but the backline was measly. Ben Dupont was his usual best and Brockie, Pricey, and Touchell were impenetrable. Special mention to Chris Hegarty ruck work and Ben Burnes’s ground level play. This was the quarter that broke Jandakots back. Ed.
HALF TIME – Kalamunda: 8.3 – 51, Jandakot: 1.5 – 11
THIRD QUARTER Opened with a nice pickup and goal by DB on the very wet near flank followed shortly by another goal by Ben Bowness. A very good clearance from the Jandakot goal square was executed by Bett. Max then delivered a fine running goal from the outstep(backhand) of his boot.
On the outer flank Brett at 90% speed landed a great 20m pass right on Ben’s chest. A very good quarter with a 5-2 improvement in our score to Jandakot 1-1.
FOURTH QUARTER probably our worst, but still punctuated by many good marks and passages of football, notably by, Adam’s clean pick up and goal, a great mark and clearance by Trent from the kickout, and a clearing kick by Jarrod to Joel. The team played extremely well in view of the appalling surface conditions with ducks still feeding in the large puddles at the final siren.
Final Score: Jandakot 5.8 – 38, Kalamunda: 15.7 – 97
PLAY OF THE DAY
Third quarter on near flank a series of great positioning’s and passes, started on the wing by Joel, to DB, to Ben, back to a repositioned BD and through the goals, a superb piece of amateur football, thanks gents.
Bruce Glover.
Congratulations to Cheney Kendall for winning the Subiaco Women’s Reserves Fairest and Best. This was a great effort considering Cheney played only 8 games out of a total of 14 before returning to the Cougars. Well done Cheney from all of us at the club.
