The Challenge of Change …

The Challenge for me …

I’m told that I’m old and very old fashioned and change should be simple to me,

‘Make a new start, you silly old fart, they keep on saying, you’ll see,’

They laugh at my flip-phone along with its ring-tone however it’s fine for me,

And I don’t need an I phone or tablet or J phone as they reckon I need to be free!

But I still have this feeling inside me, its dissonance and my doctor agrees,

That something is wrong, just like a poor song or an ear-worm that pestering me.

But this ‘something is wrong’ that I’ve been feeling too long, I may have the answer you see,

That well known old places like cars, shops and races from our City have ceased to be,

And the people and places that served us with good graces are nowhere now to be seen!

Crabb’s Kalamunda IGA (CLOSED 19/2/20)

Posting this notice is extremely difficult given the long history that we have had within the Kalamunda Community.

Jim & Ada Crabb certainly established a wonderful legacy for their family when they started the business in 1934 and it has seen three generations of family working the business. It has also seen quite a few generations of staff work within the store with many starting their working life at the store at 15 and moving through to become successful in their chosen careers. We were very sad to have to advise our current staff of the decision prior to going public and we thank all of them for their efforts during what has been a difficult period in the history of the store . It was especially touching last night to have one of the original staff (Pat Hallahan) at the store prior to the closure.
To our very loyal customers we thank you for your support over the 85 years as we know that there were a lot of third generation shoppers.
Again a sincere thank you to all who have been involved with Crabb’s. Bruce Harwood

My old mate Rob Moseley was also upset with the closure of another  institution in the main street of Kalamunda which has been operating for over 40 years. Like IGA mentioned above the cost of running the business and declining patronage has forced the business to close. Rob is particularly upset because it provided him with a chance to get some exercise as he walked up to the agency to put his bets on. We asked him if he was going to start betting on- line and he replied ‘Never, whenever I have a win I like to feel the good old cash in Hand!’

Australia’s AAP Newswire will close after 85 years of supplying content to national and global newspapers, broadcast outlets and digital editions. The business is no longer viable in the face of increasing free online content, CEO Bruce Davidson said on Tuesday when confirming job losses and the cessation of output at the end of June.

Australian Associated Press’s Pagemasters editorial production service will also close at the end of August.  Australian Associated Press is an Australian news agency. It was established by Keith Murdoch in 1935. AAP employs more than 175 journalists who work in bureaus in all states and territories of Australia. Wikipedia

It was revealed recently that the Holden brand would be retired from sales in Australia and New Zealand and local design and engineering operations will wind down by 2021. General Motors’ Commodore and Astra models were retired late last year. The first Holden cars rolled off the production line on November 29, 1948.

Now we have Coronavirus (COVID-19) a respiratory illness caused by a new virus. Symptoms range from a mild cough to pneumonia. Some people recover easily, others may get very sick very quickly. There is evidence that it spreads from person to person. Good hygiene can prevent infection.
