‘Trade a Brick for a Piece of Jade’ …
You must first convince people that your brick is of greater value than their piece of jade!
If you’re going to convince them an understanding of their character is essential.
The bait must also be tempting enough for them to react to it.
Each year Asian countries send delegations abroad to make purchases such as grain.
The high profile delegations travel countries from state to state finalising purchases in each one.
The fact is they have already purchased the commodity from a single major brokerage.
They then travel to each state in which the brokerage has offices to shake hands and take photo opportunities with local politicians, who then take all the credit for the business they have generated.
What they are buying on their visits is political clout!
Essentially the cost of the grain is far less than the political influence used to prevent governments from enacting realistic trade policy towards them.
Has President Trump woken up to this tactic too late by commencing a trade war with China? The way things are going (May 2020) we may finish up in another Cold War!
