What has happened to the ‘Footy Focus’ ?

Football in the Community – Community in Football

Unfortunately, it looks as though the ‘Footy Focus’ the official program of the Hills Football Association, that was available on match days will not be printed again this year because of its cost.

I was told the gate fees we pay to attend matches in the HFA, were not enough to cover to the cost of printing the program!

This is very disappointing, as it makes it very hard for supporters and spectators to keep up with the playing lists and read the latest news regarding their clubs and the other interesting statistics the publication contained.

The ‘Focus’ also displayed the outstanding support of club sponsors and their contribution to the strength and future of the HFA.

The Focus enabled each club to publish it’s weekly match reports and fundraising efforts to support worthy causes such as cancer research, mental health issues and other social events.

President of the HFA Brian Pallister and his wife Carleen who is the Secretary/ Treasurer of the association, have over the past decade, put in a tremendous amount of time and effort to ensure this publication has been available.

Their efforts ensured that the club volunteers and umpires were acknowledged, because without them, our young men and women would not have had the opportunity to be involved in our great game!

The organisation in running a football association is enormous. This can be confirmed when one looks at Brian’s Presidential report and the HFA executives and award winners whose names and titles were published in the last Footy Focus in 2021.

As well as the awards for executives and players, the publication included records of Grand Final winners from 1946, including HFA Presidents, HFA Secretaries and Vice Presidents. The record also included Life Members from 1954.

The Presidents medals for Fairest & Best from 1946, Association Leading Goal Scorers and  the Echo Newspaper awards for Most Consistent Players, dating back to 1984  had also been included.

I enjoyed writing the Pickering Brook match reports back when I was coaching in 2012/13, and I’m sure our players enjoyed the writers comments about the ‘antics’ of opposing teams.

It’s been an  interesting and valuable community publication since I became a supporter in the HFA in 2011. It’s a shame to see it go!
