Round 17, Collegians V’s Kalamunda @ David Cruickshank Reserve
In round 8 at Harmony Field against Collegians., the Cougars seemed to play this game with little reward for their efforts. Fortunately they prevailed and won by 5 points!
Rain made the conditions for this game difficult., with the sides struggling to hold and dispose of the ball with any accuracy. Both sides had difficulty scoring until Tyler Mouritz kicked the first and only goal for the quarter.
In the second term the cougars dominated the play, however scoring with the wet ball was still difficult and they kicked 2.6 to keep Collegians scoreless for the quarter to lead by 24 points at half time.
The roles were reversed in the third quarter as Collegians took complete control and kept the Cougars scoreless! Fortunately, our Backline led by Josh Touchell and Adrian Cowin held the line under great pressure and kept the opposition to 1.4 to finish the quarter with the Cougars leading by 14 points.
The weather was starting to improve at the start of the last quarter and the Cougars mid-field who had been at the thick of the action all match started to dominate play, with Michael De Gasperis, Tiger Morris and Steve Caccetta providing opportunities for Ash McGowan, Ben de Guzman and Tyler Mouritz to score and win the game by 27 points.
This was a hard slugging match in difficult conditions and all players contributed on the day. There will be plenty of sore bodies looking for recovery to take on League leaders Whitford for next week at home.
Final scores: Kalamunda 7.13 – 55, Collegians 3,10 – 28.

Congratulations to Jack Jago who played his 100th game for the Kalamunda Cougars this Saturday in round 17. It loomed as a must win game to stay in the finals hunt. Jack is a brave soldier who never backs down from a challenge. He is as tough as they come, slight in frame/stature but attacks the ball with a ferocious intensity, at times reckless to his own health and well being, all without a second thought. Jack locked in his league debut at a young age of 18 and not only looked comfortable at the level but excelled and put more seasoned experienced opposition midfielders to the sword.
Jack in a short time has put together a CV most would salivate over. He is building a great reputation that is making his peers stand up and take notice of a great future leader at our club. He was Colts runner up best and fairest, made his League debut at 18 years old, was a Colts premiership player, and winner of the Terry Chapman encouragement award.
Jack Jago has been – Most Consistent – Most Courageous and has been a League runner up best and fairest!
Well done Jago, the class, grit and determination you show each and every week is rare. I’m sure many are proud of what you have achieved so far with greater things to come. Hope you have a great career with the Cougars!
