Hawks Report 2026

Ben Harffey reporting:
We  trust you will enjoy our blow by blow descriptions of the rounds leading up to the final series and hope you will continue to sponsor and support the management, committee and great players in our club and the Hills Football Association.

The terrace was full and the weather was perfect for Saturday night footy out at the Brook! Years of hard work from many at the footy club and sports club, finally provided some night footy for the locals.

We had a few new recruits for the match, but we were all buzzing like it was our 1st game. The energy was up, and as usual Jacko tipped off and away, we went. With a quick flick from Butters out to Brendo and straight down Milkys throat. It wasn’t long before a rinse and repeat out of the centre, found Curtis on a strong lead and he opened his account with his 1st Pickers goal. Some good forward line pressure made it difficult for them to get pass the 50. A big hit from Jehtty saw the ball spill out to Ben, a long kick to the square and Milky with a nice, contested grab. They managed to get it forward and pressure from Anthony to knock it through, releasing Mitch with a wobbly barrel found Jacko with a strong mark, wheeling around he found Jacob at the top of the 50, Milky again with a strong grab and goal #3 for the qtr!
A view from the far boundary
The 2nd started with them getting a quick goal and bringing it back to 2 goals. Their midfield started to lift, and they were sharking a lot of Jacko’s hit outs. Vellinga took several intercept marks, but we weren’t quite getting the connection with the midfield, and the backline had to tighten up. After several kick-ins from Mitch, we again found the release through Jacko, he found Brooksey down the wing and hands off to Ben again finding Milky. Unfortunately, his night ended prematurely with a hammy. With a key forward down, we were relying on Curtis. No pressure in your first game. With not a lot of options, we through Rushy down there for a rest and what a master stroke, got front and square and rewarded with a nice snap on goal. They were peppering the goals, and the backline was working overtime. Some great pressure from Mono and Veccs meant there were no easy shots.
The premiership qtr hasn’t been our best and it showed when they kicked the first 2 goals to even it up. Ben and Brendo took it upon themselves to start winning more clearances, as they played between themselves, the forwards managed to lock it in on the 50. Butters got a quick snap from the back of the pack and conveniently landed in Brendos lap. Slotted it from 35m out on the 45. They hit back with another goal, and it was looking like a close one. Will crashed through the back, giving Ben time to collect and feed it out to Rushy, with seconds to dispose he found Curtis on a lead. He didn’t grab it but followed up crumbing his own work and a ripper snap for goal. A goal from them just before the siren, gave us a goal buffer leading into the last.
Again, they got the jump on us, and the scores were all even. Ben was working overtime and another centre clearance for him, had us moving forward. Danos was providing some pressure on the CHF line and a contest spilled out Jacob and a quick kick landed on Jehts chest. With composure, he went back and slotted it from 40m out. Kempen and Logan were hunting around and providing pressure down forward, however they worked it easily through the centre and a mark and goal had the scores level again. The ball came out the guts and towards the backline, but another solid grab from Ling and Veccs with the run and carry opened up the centre and he speared it short to Benny. Looking to move it on, he saw Jacko leading out the square and laced him out. On a tough angle and from the paint, sends it home! Less than a goal up with 5 minutes to go, it was up for grabs. We were going forward and a questionable free kick gave them a shot at goal and they were back in front. The next few minutes was an arm wrestle, and we got the ball deep, but a clutch mark in the last line saved their day.
Absolute nailbiter and a great game, even if we were on the wrong end of the result. As usual the lads never gave in, and the crowd was doing their best to ride us home. Thanks to everyone who came out to support, it absolutely pumped the lads up and is the reason we really play!

The Footy Focus back in publication …

We were pleased to see the new link to Club Shop recently who are now publishing the Footy Focus for the Hills Football Association.  We reported in May 2022 it was unfortunate the ‘Footy Focus’ the official program of the Hills Football Association, that was available on match days, would not be printed again this year because of its cost. We were told the gate fees we pay to attend matches in the HFA, were not enough to cover to the cost of printing the program!

This was disappointing, as it made it very hard for supporters and spectators to keep up with the playing lists and read the latest news regarding their clubs and the other interesting statistics the publication contained.

The ‘Focus’ also displayed the outstanding support of club sponsors and their contribution to the strength and future of the HFA.

The Focus also enabled each club to publish it’s weekly match reports and fundraising efforts to support worthy causes such as cancer research, mental health issues and other social events.

Club Shop now allows clubs to benefit from the sale of merchandise, specifically produced to their clubs requirements. In terms of a budget, club’s no longer needs to outlay large amounts of money to purchase large quantities of stock that ends up sitting around gathering dust.  There is also no need for stock takes or the worry of where the stock is when a new committee is appointed.

Club Shop advises clients can choose the products, where they customise them to suit.

  1. Club Shop also handles the sales, paperwork and delivery then supplies the profits directly to your club with statement and payment.
  2. they advise there are no locked in contracts!
