Retirement close to the sea …
For sixty odd years without holidays, I wondered how this could be,
As I’d often imagined a lay-off, one that was near to the sea.
Now older and cranky, and said to be ‘mankey’, they arranged a rest for me,
High in the hills with no charges or bills, a holiday home for free!
‘Come quickly and see it, you’ll love to live in it’, they readily said to me,
With views of the hills with bush garden’s for thrills and a road right down to the sea.
You can ride to the pub or take walks in the scrub or go fishing as much as you please,
Your life will be fun, a joy on the run, and your friends can now stay for free!
But under this fun and joy to be won a secret was kept from me,
That my sister in law a terrible bore, would be sharing this place with me!
Now no trips to the pub or walks in the scrub and the fish remain in the sea,
I was caught in a trap, my wife saw to that, with her sister they ganged up on me,
Then life became changed, they say rearranged, a gardener I now happen to be,
With mowing and raking and weeding and shaping my days are as busy as bees,
Now my views of the sea and drives off the tee are far lost in my thoughts to be free!
