Round 14 The Cougars have a ‘Day-Out’

Round 14, Kalamunda V’s Mosman Park at Ray Owen Oval

With round 13 resulting in a tough draw with the Melville Rams, the Cougars would have been on high alert to face Mosman Park who won their last encounter in round 5 at Tom Perrott Reserve by 8 points.

With seven changes made to the side for this game, the result highlighted the depth of talent in the Cougar ranks. The number of changes would have concerned any coach regarding team balance, however Coach Bolton was confident the changes made would compliment the Cougars structure and be successful.

As it turned out any concerns he may have had were dispelled in the first quarter when the Cougars kicked 6 goals to the Mossies single goal to lead by 30 points.

This bloke caused headaches for the Mossies!

Leo Lambert set the scene with a dazzling display up forward kicking 2 majors with Mitch Della- Franca, Jack Jago, Ben Holman and Cooper Boyd all contributing goals.

The game looked like heading for a ‘white-wash’ when the Mossies took control in the second term kicking 4.1 to the Cougars 3.2,  showing they were well into the game and determined to stop the Cougars run.

Tough stuff in the middle

Leo Lambert kicked another 2 goals with Jackson Bowen 1 to ‘save face’ and look forward to some ‘encouragement’ from their coach at half time.

The third quarter looked as though it was going to be a repeat of the second with the Cougars making mistakes with delivery and high tackles resulting in turnovers.

Some ‘high flying’

The Mossies had increased their intensity during this term and placed a great deal of pressure on Ethan Faulds, Josh Touchell and Brett van Groningen who harried their opponents, causing them to kick 2.5 for the quarter.

Two key goals from Jackson Bowen and Trent Pottinger took the initiative from the Mossies 15 minutes in and despite giving everything they were still 21 points behind at the break.

The Skipper breaking his tag …

The Cougars fitness in the last quarter was beginning to wear the Mossies down, with Josh Harris breaking free to kick 2 and Joel Peters, Tiger Morris and Ryan Newbold finding space to seal the game with goals.

This was a tough physical encounter and the final score did not reflect the physical aspects of this game.

This was a meritorious day for the club as the 4 men’s teams all won by large margins. Unfortunately our ladies lost V’s Cottesloe, however they have had a successful season and will strive to play in the Ladies C1 finals.
