HFA Round 4, 15 May 2022 Hawks V’s Mount Helena at Pickering Brook
Mount Helena hoped to improve their 5th position when they challenged the Hawks who are currently sitting in 2nd position on the HFA ladder.
Not a great deal can be said about this match because the Hawks kicked 9 goals to 2 in the first quarter and by half time were 74 points in front!
Mount Helena tried very hard to stop the dominance of the Hawks from the centre, however the overall strength of the Hawks around the ground was too strong and the few attacks the Mounties made, were repulsed by the Hawks led by Hayden Della Franca and Josh Vellinga.
Once the ball was cleared the Hawk’s mounted a blitzkrieg led by Mick Brescasin, John Armstrong and Riley Thompson who kicked 15 goals between them! They also provided plenty of opportunities for their teammates to chip-in and kick the balance of the score.
In the final quarter the game became a rout with the Hawks kicking 11.3 to the hapless ‘Mounties’ 1 point!
To Mount Helena’s credit their young players battled hard all day and at times frustrated the Hawks with their determination to win the ball at stoppages, however their overall lack of skill let them down, something they will need to improve, to improve their position on the ladder!
Final scores: Pickering Brook 30.17 – 197, Mt Helena 5.2 – 32
Best Players: Tim McQuoid, Luke Outridge & Mitch Johnston
Goals: Mick Brescasin 4, John Armstrong 7, Riley Thompson 4
Special mention by coach: Hayden Della Franca
