Strategy #31 The Beauty Trap… “美人计”

The Beauty Trap…

From earliest times sex has been used as a weapon of espionage and intrigue.

There is the story of the King of Yue’s revenge from the Spring & Summer Annals (770 – 476 B.C.)

It contains the earliest recorded instance of a beautiful woman being used as a spy.

The King of Yue sent Xi Si, one of the most beautiful women in the history of China to Wu’s King ostensibly as a gift.

Her true purpose was to capture the King’s attention and divert him from affairs of state while gathering information.

She was successful in both endeavours and as a consequence the King of Yue was able to destroy his enemy.

Chinese proverb: ‘You can lose your maiden as well as your troops’. Thus the saying: ‘Woman is water, Man is mud. They mix well together’.
