How POTUS is going to save the World …
“We’re leading China in AI. We’re the leading country in the World. And frankly I want to keep it that way, because whoever wins AI, wins” – Donald Trump in response to his forthcoming summit meeting in Washington with President Xi of China.
It seems the World is on the brink as the architects of artificial intelligence warn of potential human catastrophe from their projects. Paul Kelly writing for The Australian said it would be folly to ignore their self-restraint as self-interest.
The real test is whether these leaders have the courage and wisdom to respond to its significance. Sadly, the world seems to be full of leaders ill equipped for these historic tasks. Trump and Xi now have the option of adding AI to their agenda in discussing Iranian War sanctions, strategic competition, global trade and their obsession with the Art of War.
Trump looks on at AI as something that’s going to save his presidency.
He sees AI as the revolutionary technology as the key to economic ascendency and the way to make America number one and great again! When Anthropics chief Dario Amedoi backed by Open AI’s Sam Altman and Elon Musk of SpaceX suggested slowing the pace of AI development to improve the capability, they were ridiculed by Trump saying it was a hoax.
“I am the Hoax Buster” Trump bragged. “I’m right now breaking another hoax – that AI is going to take over, consume and destroy the World and robots will be marching into our cities and getting rid of us all”
He makes you wonder a bit, doesn’t he?
Kevin Rudd as global president of the Asia Society and close analyst of the AI struggle said: “XI believes that artificial intelligence augmented by a centrally controlled state, can move with speed scale and flexibility to achieve an efficient allocation of resources across the economy”.
Rudd has written extensively in his book ‘On XI Jinping’ and has a clear insight into the president’s objectives and how his Marxist nationalism is shaping China and the rest of the World. In short China will not be in “catch-up” mode with the West, but will be driving ahead.
XI’s aim is for 70 per cent AI adoption by September 2027 across China’s health, media, transport and public safety.
Trump and XI don’t trust each other. What hope is there they may save our future and Donald Trump’s?
