Round 12, Gosnells V’s Kalamunda Cougars at Gosnells Oval
The Cougars would have been favored to win this round against the Gosnells ‘Hawks’ who currently sit in 9th position on the PFL ladder.
In their last encounter in round 3 at home, the Cougars won easily by 87 points, however on their home ground the Hawks always represent a threat, and the Cougars would have to play at their best to retain their position at the top of the ladder.
The game commenced in perfect conditions for football, with the Cougars taking the first 10 minutes of the quarter to settle into their stride with some poor disposal resulting in turnovers, which the Hawks took advantage of to score their only goal for the term.
From then-on the quarter became a rout with the Cougars winning the ball from the middle and streaming down ground to kick 8 goals to lead by 46 points at the first break.
On resumption of play it looked like the Cougars had a different team on the park as they lost concentration and momentum to be saved from embarrassment by Tyler Mouritz, who booted 2 goals out of the 10 he kicked for the match, with Kade McKeown and Utah John-Furnace with one each.
The team will have to address the lapses in concentration they have developed in the last 3 games in their quest to play finals, where ‘fade-outs’ are fatal!
Not a great deal more can be said about this game as it was a total mismatch.
The Cougars must have received some good ‘advice’ at half-time as they came out and played like a top side, booting 11.9 for the second half, to win by 120 points over their hapless opponents.
