Round 18, Cougars Final bound …

Round 18 Jandakot V’s Kalamunda @ Atwell Reserve.

In Round 9 the Cougars won the game against the Jets by 42 points in a  tough physical game. The Jets despite being in 8th position on the PFL ladder displayed a great deal of desire to win through their physical efforts and their ability to make life miserable for our backs!

The Cougars will be expected to ensure there’s not a repeat of this form, in view of their poor showing in last weeks round 17 game against Thornlie!

The club was pleased last Thursday by the announcement that Chris Bolton the Cougars senior coach has been appointed for another 2 years to coach the Club.

C1 Coach Chris Bolton

Coach Bolton has been successful this season in bringing a new inclusive coaching strategy to the club and we wish him well in his future with the Cougars.

This game was played in perfect conditions with the Cougars bursting out of the blocks to kick 5.5 to the Jets no score! This was achieved through the efforts of Cormac White in ruck, Ashton McGowan and Utah John-Furnace with 2 goals and Mitch Massam with one from a great mark. At the other end of the ground veteran Bret van Groningen, Josh Touchell and Oliver Adriano played superbly to defend and frustrate the Jets efforts in attack.

This quarter set the tone for the rest of the match which became physical as the game progressed, with the Jets senior players resorting to some foul play.  Skipper Trent Pottinger decided to speak to the umpires about the unfair tactics the opposition were dishing out!

This aspect of the game was particularly disappointing, as the Jets senior players were playing with Colts players who were seconded to fill the C1 ranks, after their coach decided to forfeit their match at half time.

One would think that the video surveillance of matches, would be a deterrent regarding the unruly play the Cougars have experienced over the past two rounds, resulting in our players finishing up in hospital!

It seems the video picks up procedural issues by the clubs to fine them, however, when it comes to matters of assault it’s difficult.

Not a great deal more can be said about this match as the Cougars playing team football defeated Jandakot by 70 points and will now have a week off to recover and play the winner of Game 1 in Final Round 2, Saturday 30 August at a venue to be decided.
