Inaccuracy costs the Cougars …

Round 10, Kwinana V’s Kalamunda at Medina Oval.

In Round 1 at Ray Owen in warm and windy conditions the Cougars won the game by 51 points against the Knights who were a tall and physical side full of confidence on entry to the C1 competition.

As the game wore on, It became apparent the Knights were not as fit as the Cougars and their big men were beginning to tire in the conditions. Since then, they have progressed to occupy 4th position on the PFL ladder and represent a real threat to opponents on their home ground at Medina Oval.

In the first quarter the Cougars had the advantage of a fine spell and kicked with the wind to score 3.7 while the Knights responded by kicking 1.2

The Cougars inaccuracy was to cost them as the game progressed and the conditions became more difficult.

In the second term the Cougars managed to hold the Knights wind advantage by using the ‘dead’ flank on the eastern side of the ground to finish up 10 points in front at half time.

It was during this quarter the Cougars started to lose momentum by starting to play the Knights game by being one directional and bringing the Knights taller players into the game to take telling marks.

After half time the Knights came out with intent to shut down the Cougars play makers and their game plan. This was aided by a drop in the wind conditions favoring the Cougars scoring end and aided by the rain which started to squall late in the quarter with the Cougars lead reduced to 1 point.

In the final term the game became a slogging match with the Knights having the advantage in size and strength, making the Cougars struggle.

After half time the Cougars had only managed a goal from Utah John-Furnace in the third and one from Christiano Paduano in the last and this was not enough to keep the Knights out and they finally got over the line by 5 points!
